Up the “down” staircase–Uruguay style…

Posted by The Southron on January 23rd, 2007

This past Sunday, I decided to take my new “crip” scooter to our forum group gathering at Old Maz deli for the second time–but this time I decided to do it the hard way.  By “the hard way”, I mean making the trip on the sidewalks, rather than the easy way, which is going the [...]

Polite to a fault

Posted by The Southron on January 19th, 2007

When my nephew was very young he once asked me why it was important to “be polite” and to say “please” and “thank you”. I explained to him that among its other virtues, “politeness is the lubricant” that lets people interact smoothly and with less friction. Politeness, I told him helped make things function “more [...]

Crime is exciting!

Posted by The Southron on January 13th, 2007

I figured out why so many people think Uruguay is boring: there isn’t enough spectacular crime here! Sure, there are run-of-the-mill purse snatchings, amateurish muggings, inept burglaries, some very boring occasional robberies gone bad, and the usual tawdry crimes of passion. But compared to some of the places I’ve lived, Uruguay’s crimes are BORING! In [...]

Mount Everest part two.

Posted by The Southron on December 28th, 2006

Troublesome weather for Thanksgiving Week

Posted by The Southron on November 19th, 2006

The weather has been so bad that it has affected my eyes–the doctors tell me there is really nothing to do about it as it is almost like an allergic reaction–the best I can do is wear sunglasses. I also find myself yawning and a bit warm–especially in the middle of the afternoon.

I can’t figure out why the Copperhead will not let me cook…

Posted by The Southron on November 18th, 2006

I just don’t understand it.  We have lived in multiple countries, we do business in places like Kirghizstan and Russia, take holidays in Kosovo and Bosnia, and sometimes even travel to really dangerous places like Detroit.  But the Copperhead doesn’t want to let me try this really cool new receipe for Thanksgiving turkey that one [...]

I’m so excited I could just…

Posted by The Southron on November 11th, 2006

I don’t think my readers understand the level of excitement I experience in my life, especially on the weekends, so I thought that perhaps I would give you a glimpse of a typical Southron weekend,

Well, I done gone and done it…

It may not be a tough as giving birth, but it sure was a lot of work. The file was created on 22 July 2006, at 11:25:02. The last modification was made this morning (I hope). In just a few days less than 100, The Southron’s Guide to Living in Uruguay has been written.
