Crazy Gringos Celebrate something or other

Posted by southron on February 18th, 2007

What do you get when you mix Hawaiian beef, Chinese chicken, double chocolate cookies, Uruguayan wine, Grappa made from Gewürztraminer grapes, fireworks and incense?
I’ll give you a hint: it has something to do with the Moon and the Vernal Equinox, and this coming Wednesday is Ash Wednesday …
For those of you who guessed Carnival or […]

There weren’t any Oscars, but perhaps the first Carlosito…

Posted by southron on January 8th, 2007

No red carpet, no walk of fame, no annoying paparazzi, and no outfits that cost more than a house– despite all that we had a good time.
The Southron was tastefully dressed in matching green sweatpants and T-shirt, and the couture of the rest of the merrymakers ranged widely.
The food included the usual Uruguayan basics […]

Happy Christmas to all!

Posted by southron on December 25th, 2006

Many of you have been kind enough to send the personal Christmas greetings through e-mail.  I simply don’t have enough time or energy to respond to each of those greetings in the way I would like.  But, be assured that they are appreciated and reciprocated.
Christmas has always been very important to me; but as a […]

My Thanksgiving prayer

Posted by southron on November 23rd, 2006

On this Thanksgiving Day, like the Pilgrims of old, I thank you for bringing me to this bountiful new land; for the new people brought into my life, both here and elsewhere. I know that without Your help, I have a hopeless tendency to get things wrong, so I pray for:
—the faith […]

Posted by southron on November 21st, 2006

The consenus seems to be for Thursday.
The plan is to start anytime after 15.00, as the first football game is at 15.30. We’ll start with refreshments and snacks, with dinner sometime around 18.00 so anyone who has to work can still make it for dinner. With the late sunset, it should work perfectly.

We […]

I can’t figure out why the Copperhead will not let me cook…

Posted by southron on November 18th, 2006

I just don’t understand it.  We have lived in multiple countries, we do business in places like Kirghizstan and Russia, take holidays in Kosovo and Bosnia, and sometimes even travel to really dangerous places like Detroit.  But the Copperhead doesn’t want to let me try this really cool new receipe for Thanksgiving turkey that one […]

If anyone is interested in organizing or participating in a group Thanksgiving dinner, The Southron and the Copperhead are happy to have you come to our house in Carrasco. We are working on a smoked turkey as the main course and who knows what else. In addition, there will be American Football on the Sling […]

Well, I done gone and done it…

Posted by southron on October 28th, 2006

It may not be a tough as giving birth, but it sure was a lot of work. The file was created on 22 July 2006, at 11:25:02. The last modification was made this morning (I hope). In just a few days less than 100, The Southron’s Guide to Living in Uruguay has […]
