The taxman cometh???

Posted by southron on November 4th, 2006

I have no preference for either party in the upcoming elections in the US. I have not voted since I left the US in the spirng of 1998. I am, by inclination a libertarian, but those urges are tempered by an inherent utilitarianism–I simply seek things that are the least intrusive, have […]

Avoiding the US/UY tax trap…

Posted by southron on November 3rd, 2006

One of the members of the SociedadSouthron.net forum was shocked when he realized that the new Uruguay personal income tax, due the middle of next year, will create a tax conundrum for US persons:

Uruguay will not levy income tax on any foreign “unearned income” such as dividends, pensions, annuities, and other income from investments, however

Well, I done gone and done it…

It may not be a tough as giving birth, but it sure was a lot of work. The file was created on 22 July 2006, at 11:25:02. The last modification was made this morning (I hope). In just a few days less than 100, The Southron’s Guide to Living in Uruguay has […]

PEOPLE ARE BEING SENT TO MONTEVIDEO FROM INTERNATIONAL LIVING’S “URUGUAY EXPERTS” (in BA of course) AND ARE EXPECTING TO FIND APARTMENTS ON THE RAMBLA FOR U$S20,000!

Choosing Poorly: Those who should not come to Uruguay

Posted by southron on August 27th, 2006

The short answer is damnyankees of course…

But seriously, this is not about my well founded biases against arrogant jerks from North America or Europe–rather, it is about those who probably just shouldn't come here because Uruguay won't work for them. My heaven could well turn out to be your hell!

These are the Seven Deadly Sins of moving to Uruguay…

The Southron gets Medical Care in Uruguay without insurance

Posted by southron on July 18th, 2006

I went to the Hospital Militar–the Armed Forces Hospital in Monevideo. That was not a typo, the Military Hospital takes private paying patients as well. I went to them because they have a very advanced wounds trreeatment unit which includes a hyperbaric oxygen chamber that I hope will finally do away with a 6 year old wound with a Staph infection.

Can you spell C-A-V-E-A-T—- E-M-P-T-O-R in Spanish?

CAVEAT EMPTOR! Let the buyer beware!

This maxim applies to the privately owned side of internet industry here in spades. The people that run at least two of these companies make the carpetbaggers look like philanthropists.
