Last night we had a record crowd at the Thursday night Open House gathering we host every week at our offices in Buceo.

Something more than 50 people, Uruguayos and Extranjeros piled into the “clubhouse” behind our offices for food and drink and fun. This week, we were pleased to have a magic show, featuring card tricks by Judith Ginerman, who first visited us with the English class in which she is a student–Judy has become a welcome regular ever since.

In addition to our “local” Uruguayan and immigrant friends, we also welcome visitors from as far away as Siberia.

The Open House is open to everyone and is held every Thursday night (with a possible exception around Christmas and the New Year) from about 6PM until we finally throw the last people out…

Wow! What a great surprise, I lived for 17 years in Florida too!!
But….I’m a natural born uruguayan and I look forward to meet you guys!! I lived with my wife in Punta del Este, and since I work the whole day is kind of difficult to go to Mvdeo during the week.
I imagine that we can go the restaurant on sundays?

    >>You are more than welcome to visit our Open house on Thursday nights anytime.  I am not sure what, if anything is going on Sundays.  After we changed our meeting, the only other meeting of which I am aware is a group that refuses to accommodate handicapped people–hence I decline to participate.

    Best regards,

Hi-Just wondering on what happened with your operation. Also are you doing any work on your next book which I hope will also include other towns and areas of Uruguay? I see that, you know who, is now pushing Costa Rica as a great place to retire. I had Beach property there but sold it after 10 years. Keep up the great work.

    >>Thanks for asking!  I still have the balloon in my stomach–since it is working well and I am losing weight without any side effects other than world-class burping  we are going to leave it in for a bit longer and see how much weight I can dump with it.

I am planning to write a much expanded version of my book for its second edition–certainly to include m ore of Uruguay.  There is also talk of organising a collaborative travel guide with me as the primary editor and writer….

I don’t know about CR for retirement, but as a place to do business I rate it just a little above North Korea and below France.
