This past Thursday night a bunch of people from our local group went to Old Maz for an evening of English language comedy.  Certainly it was comedy in a Shakespearean sense, in that everybody lived.  And, since the “comedian” was a South African, his accent was pretty funny.  Overall, my impression was that it was a bit like a cricket match, “hours of boredom, punctuated with seconds of action”.

In all fairness however, he must have been funny because several times the laughter from the crowd woke me up…

His most memorable line had to do with the way South Americans play futball–when he noted that if they could, they would swallow the ball in midfield, and regurgitate it across the goal.  (That is actually the cleaned up version of what he said.)  I think he tried really hard to put on a good show but just did not have enough material for his subject.

That being said, Daniel, the proprietor of Old Maz, needs to be congratulated for least trying some innovative programming.  I’m sure the next attempt will be better, and I’m sure that I will be there with a bunch from our local group.

Something to say?
