Well, it looks like I’m not going to be homeless for Christmas. I would prefer certainly prefer to visit the manger during midnight liturgy than to have to live in it. They say all good things come to those who wait, and in this case at least it is true.
We found a great house in Pocitos, on a 2 block long street, which in turn is just two blocks off of Avenida Brasil. 90% or more of the people I know in Uruguay live within 3 km of the house. It will have offices in the front, private quarters in the back, and a 300 m²(3200 ft.²) walled backyard, with a barbecue pit in a covered patio at the back end of a lot. It will be great for entertaining and the dogs will certainly love it.
I get to move in one week from now, and my family arrives from Florida one week later. In the meantime all we have to do is install air conditioners, cable the entire house for Internet and phones, build a handicapped accessible bathroom for me, and buy a house full of furniture.
Other than that, I have nothing to do, except little things like running my businesses, writing blogs, etc.
It sort of reminds me of an old Alan Sherman poem, which goes something like this:
Birdie, birdie in the sky, why you do that in my eye?
I’m a good boy, I don’t cry.
Gee, I’m glad that cows don’t fly.

David, Congratulations on your new home. I’m sure you must be relieved. I saw that house during my house hunting and I remember how beautiful the back yard was. If I hadn’t decided on the place I’m in now I would have taken that one. You have good taste. ;-)
I don’t envy all you have to get done in such a short time — in addition to working! It’s been three weeks since I signed the rental contract on my house and I’m still working on little things like getting the stove installed and have the landlord fix a leaky faucet. Today we had movers come to hoist the washing machine up to the roof. They had to bring it up on a neighbor’s house too doors down then carry roof-to-roof over to my Azotea. It’s good to have that done since the washer was blocking a hallway upstairs since Monday. Now my next priority is getting curtains so I can stop being the neighborhood exhibitionist!
So much to do but so worth it. There’s no place like home and as I get more done each day I feel more and more like I am home. I’m sure you’ll be feeling the same thing now that you’ll be living in a place that isn’t “temporary.” Good luck!

Wow! We’ll miss having you here in Carrasco, but Pocitos is an awesome neighborhood–Jenny and I think that if we stay longer than a year we’ll move to Pocitos now that we’ve had some time to adjust to all the other changes.
Hope I’m not too late to help with the move!
