The journal of an Emigrant from Florida who spent almost 5 years in Uruguay...

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (HSA) has proposed that, beginning on Jan. 14, 2007, all airlines, cruise lines-even fishing boats-be required to obtain clearance for each passenger they propose taking into or out of the United States.

When the DHS system comes into effect next January, if the agency says no to a clearance request, or doesn’t answer the request at all, you won’t be permitted to enter-or leave-the United States. The above was excerpted from The Sovereign A-Letter 2-NOV-2006. This just scares the heck out of me–I’m sure glad I am out and plan to stay out!

I try not to be overtly political, but this is absolutely communist-fascist-totalitarian-wrong!!! I can hear the Gestapo/KGB asking: “your papers please…”

I guess the bit about rights being inalienable in the Declaration of Independence is down the drain. The presumption of innocence and the liberty of the subject went a while ago with things like felony forfeiture. Only dictatorships require prior approval to leave or for their own citizens to return!

This makes me want to cry and them scream. And worse, the majority of people are going to say, if it makes me safer, I am in favor of it. Franklin was right when he said those who surrender essential liberty for a little temporary security deserve neither liberty nor security!

If our American forbears had put safety above everything, at best the US would still be a small huddle of States along the Atlantic Coast, probably still singing God Save the Queen!

If sturdy britons had put safety above everything, there never would has been an Empire for the sun to rise on, much less set on.

This is a long way from Ronald Reagan’s vision: “Our goal ought to be the greatest degree of individual freedom consistant with an orderly society.” That was the shining city on the hill.

and you wonder why I have expatriated?

One Response to “A New Iron Curtain is coming down around America!”

Dear Southron, I couldn’t agree with you more, however, don’t lose sight of the fact that it was the Reagan administration who laid the ground work for this situation that we see today. Orchastrated by the very same people that were in his administration back then.

Our only hope is to drain the swamp in Washington on Tuesday!

    >>I really wish that would work!

I don’t want to spark a big battle here, as it is not germane to this Blog, but I personally choose to differentiate between RR the man and President, and the political operatives that served in his administration.  I was there in Washington at the time–and the difference between the two was astounding.  It sickens me when they invoke his name and memory for things he would have absolutely hated!  Potomac Fever has destoryed many good people–not to mention the Republic…

Something to say?
