Montevideo is crawling with gringos…so I am cancelling this blog!

Posted by southron on September 21st, 2006

Montevideo is literally awash in gringos from our UruguayLiving.com website. Since I have gotten my cedula, I have decided we don't need any more foreigners, so I am canceling this blog!

Just kidding…

Breathlessly I immediately clicked on the link to start the download. I turned away to get a drink and when I turned back, it appeared that nothing had happened. Annoyed, I clicked on the link again, and lo and behold, the download was, in fact complete.

As downloaded, it is 128 pages including front and back covers.

There are two local Expat groups I have discovered: one British and one American. For details, please read on…

Sociedad Southron and other grandiose dreams…

Posted by southron on September 8th, 2006

We have come up with a series of ideas that could be beneficial both to Expats moving here, or think of moving here, and at the same time, help develop the local economy and make it more open for tourism, immigration and investments.

Buquebus: A Great Way to BA…unless you are handicapped

Posted by southron on September 5th, 2006

The Trip on the “fast” boat from MVD to BA takes 3 hours in each direction and usually leaves withing a half hour of the scheduled departure time. The trip is comfortable in airline style seats and there is ample food and drinks available for purchase during the trip. The lounges are really nice at both ends. This is a really low tension alternative to flying and takes you from downtown to downtown. However, during the highseason the lines can be very long and if you are not traveling 1st Class you must arrive early and stand in line waiting to board you may be left with a poor seating choice.

But if you are handicapped, and especially if you are wheelchair bound - it could be pretty rough.

Every which way but warm…

Old Man Winter may be winding down, but he still has a few really nasty barbs to throw our way.

A Pig in a Poke…Internet service from Netgate

Posted by southron on September 1st, 2006

When we first moved here we were given very bad advice: to get our initial ADSL line from a private provider named Netgate. Boy are we sorry.
