Some of my friends have said that I am so big that I create my own gravity. I'm not sure that this is true, but there surely seems to be some gravitational pull towards this website.
I have had a couple of really pleasant recent contacts that I should pass on to you: one British and one American.
For our friends from Great Britain, the Commonwealth, and Anglophiles in general, there is a well organised group called “THE BRITISH SOCIETY IN URUGUAY“, which has been around since 1918. Their monthly roster of events is quite impressive, even if you don't like cucumber sandwiches.
I was particularly interested in the Whisky Tasting and Supper at Maroñas Racetrack. Membership is a mere UY$250 per year, a little more than 10 Yankee dollars. To give you an idea of their activities, I have lift the schedule for the rest of this month and for October from their newsletter:

Secondly, there is an informal groups of Americans (mostly Yankees, I expect) who gather Sunday afternoons at Old Maz Deli at 21 de Setiembre 3090, in Pocitos. Old Maz is located on 21 de Setiembre between Benito Blanco and Francisco Vidal in Pocitos. It's easy to get to with many buses passing by (including bus #17 and #116, Bus #121 passes a block away on the Rambla – get off at 21 de Setiembre). If all else fails it's just around the corner from the Pocitos Plaza Hotel. see: http://www.totaluruguay.com/montevideo/fun.html. If there are any more Expat groups out there, organised, semi-organised, or completely informal, please let me know. We may find that there is a thriving Tibetan colony in the Cuchilla Grande unknown to everyone.

“Christ Church Centre”I hope this reference means that there is an English speaking Anglican Church in Montevideo. Is that the case? Thanks,Paul
