Today I got two emails from International Living on Uruguay. One was the “daily post card” and the second was touting a new book “Uruguay: The Owners Manual”, by Lee Harrison and the IL Staff. Having some small interest in the subject, I purchased it to take advantage of the 25% discount introductory offer. When I received the email confirmation, I found out that it hasn't even been printed yet and wouldn't be ready for 4 weeks. One cannot help wondering if it is even written yet. Nice. I hope they like my outline…
Would it be tacky to note in passing that IL's Uruguay expert lives in Ecuador and their Real Estate experts live in Argentina?
Sorry, but I am a little bit miffed.

Very cheesy move indeed. Oh brother..

Actually, I live in Uruguay, in Punta del Este (Rincon del Indio), but I guess word hasn’t gotten out yet. And truthfully, I haven’t made any effort to publicize it. But it’s bothersome to hear that I wrote the Uruguay Owners Manual, when the only thing in there of mine is a couple of quotes. This is the second time that I’ve heard the Manual attributed to me, so I’ll need to look at the promotional materials to see why that impression is out there…I’m glad you mentioned it.

Perhaps we should collaborate…

Anything in International Living should be taken with a grain of salt - to say the least. It’s mostly hype. I bought their “Ecuador Owner’s Manual” (by Lee Harrison when he DID live there), visited for an extended stay, and found many exaggerations and untruths. Also, most of the “helpful links” they publish don’t work. Buyer Beware! This blog is much more helpful than IL!

As someone who has read IL off and on for years, and after reading the comments regarding this post I cannot help but wonder when IL is going to start offering “Amazing Insider Deals” for North Korea and Communist China. I hear real estate values are spectacular for villas overlooking the yangtze river near scenic Wuhan.
